The Basics of Blogging: A Guide to Getting Started
Presenter: Ted Birkhahn, COO, Peppercom
Wednesday, September 24, 3 - 4 p.m. EDT

For a blog to be successful, it’s critical that the content be relevant, authentic and unfiltered. Blogging is all about communicating points of view on issues that are important to you and your stakeholders, thus becoming a trusted source of information that is free of blatant marketing. Instead of commercialized content about a company, product or service, a blog should offer a platform to have conversations, share knowledge and build relationships, which allows thought leaders to educate and learn from their peers. This program will provide an introductory overview of blogging for those looking to develop blogs for their own firms as well as their clients. It will cover the obstacles, risks and rewards of developing and maintaining a blog platform that will help your firm and its clients connect with audiences in new and profound ways.

You will learn:
  • How to determine if you’re ready to blog.
  • What to expect when launching and managing a blog.
  • How to avoid the common pitfalls and manage the risks associated with a blog.
  • How to maximize a blog for the greatest return on investment

Ted Birkhahn is chief operating officer, head of client services at Peppercom, a strategic communications firm with offices in New York, San Francisco and London. Peppercom’s clients include a variety of mid- to large-size corporations including ITT Corporation, Honeywell, Valspar, Steelcase and Unisys, among others. Ted has worked closely with a team of professionals in developing and launching Peppercom’s digital marketing practice. The practice aims to help clients develop digital communications strategies to protect and extend their brands among key stakeholders. These strategies include corporate blog and podcast development, sentiment monitoring, blog relations, e-interactions and digital partnerships, among others.

Survey Results - The Juggling Act: Managing Client Relationships While Minding the Store

Evaluating an employee, handling an 11th hour crisis, signing payroll checks, putting the finishing touches on a new business pitch, writing a speech for a client CEO, planning next month's staff retreat. Sound like your typical day? Welcome to the delicate balancing act of agency management: managing client relationships while minding the store – or commonly known as the conflict between working in the business vs. working on the business.
